In-Clinic Program – San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH)
Breast Clinic

CDV has a 14-year partnership with San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), which has been at the foundation of our program, providing the referrals and resources necessary to successfully support low-income and below-poverty Latinas diagnosed with cancer. Because we believe a woman’s initial levels of psychosocial distress predict later quality of life, CDV’s hospital program was developed with the assumption that early intervention—the provision of support at the time of diagnosis or shortly thereafter—reduces distress and anxiety. A CDV staff member attend the SFGH’s Breast Clinic weekly where she provides immediate support, translation for the physician and patient, and cancer information to newly diagnosed Latinas, to those already in treatment, and to those returning for follow-up care.

Individual and Family Counseling
Offered to members who need more than group support, and to family members to help loved ones understand their own reactions and get through the fear and grief that can paralyze families of people with cancer.

Spanish-language Look Good/Feel Better Program
In partnership with the American Cancer Society, CDV provides wigs, turbans, and make-up to women in cancer treatment. The program also provides bras and prostheses to women who have had mastectomies.

Cancer Information Library
Provides information in Spanish on all types of cancers.
